Expert Review

Recent technological developments now permit SAR aircraft, helicopters and drones to take thousands of image-recognition images during current active SAR missions, greatly improving the mission's target detection rates.

Search targets, such as SOS, people, vehicles, crashed aircraft, crashed helicopters, vessels and oil-spills, can all be rapidly detected by the new 'Searchlight Image Locator' online software, which can automatically scan thousands of images an hour.

The open arctic regions are ideally suited to image-recognition SAR, which can maximize the use of scarce local SAR resources by simultaneously taking these high-resolution images during the active SAR missions flights.
