The VDR Float Free capsule is a combine EPIRB and a storage unit with an EPIRB battery capacity of 168 hours at -20*C. This VDR Float Free capsule can also be fitted with a heating bracket so to protect and reduce iceing.

The challange is that the VDR regulation only affects vessels from 3000GT and upwards. Fishing vessels or smaller vessels(less than 3000GT) are not affected by the VDR regulation and therefor not able/require to install the VDR system which include the float free storage unit, mention above. The same VDR Float Free Capsule can also be interfaced towards a S-VDR system as well as "Mini VDR" system. A "Mini VDR" system is not under mandatory requirement, but a "spinn-off" with even less sensors to be recorded than a S-VDR system.
